Serving Callaway County since 1957
In 1957, eight men founded the Fulton United Charities Community Chest. This organization allocated a little over $19,000 to nine agencies during its first year. Eighteen years later the organization changed their name to the Callaway County United Way. While the mission stayed the same the increased support of the community grew. During 2014 thirteen agencies will be funded with a goal of $265,000.
In addition to the increase in support we have also adopted several new programs over the years to include the Born Learning Campaign and 2-1-1. Born Learning provides parents and guardians of children ages birth to 5 years with valuable learning activities. The Callaway County United Way has also partnered with 8 other United Ways in the state to link Missouri residents to basic needs, physical/mental health resources, and employment support through the 2-1-1 program. With one call, residents can be assured of getting reliable, helpful and targeted help of the services available in their community.
Two other programs adopted by the Callaway County United Way are the FamilyWize prescription drug discount card program and our Recycling program. You can read more about their initiatives by clicking on the links above.
In 2014 your United Way will distribute quarterly Community Enhancement Grants. These grants will help fund projects that concentrated on Health, Education, Income and/or Emergency Services. In addition to the grants, the Callaway County United Way has set aside an Agency Crisis Fund to provide immediate relief to our partner agencies if they come upon a financial hardship during the year.
Many things have changed over the past 50+ years but one constant is the support and generosity of the people and businesses in our community. For over half a century the Callaway County United Way has been serving those in need and has contributed more than $5 million to our member agencies.
If not for the support of our donors we would not be where we are today.
With the United Way, you're making more than a donation—you are making a difference for so many in your community!!
